About PZ

"Supreme talent has to collide with reality sometimes
or, like cream, it goes off." - Ian Gillan

By the start of the 1970s, 'heavy rock' was well-established. Two of the movement's leading bands, Deep Purple and Led Zeppelin, were exploring new directions outside more traditional blues approaches, and were incorporating influences from Bach to folk into their music.

Both bands had a similar pedigree, each having formed around a nucleus of talented and experienced UK session players. Purple's Jon Lord and Zeppelin's Jimmy Page had certainly even worked at the same sessions, including that which yielded The Kinks' 'You Really Got Me'.

It was the adventurous nature of both bands, coupled with their extraordinary musicianship and some of the most powerful riffs ever devised, that set them apart from their peers.

The members of the Purple Zeppelins have played with many line-ups, but with PZ we've been drawn back to the music we love. Together we aim to recreate the spirit and sounds of Deep Purple and Led Zeppelin as our tribute performances pay homage to the musical heroes of a generation.
